Amanda Rossetti, Founder & Lead Dietitian

Hi! My name is Amanda, I’m a Registered Dietitian (RD) and founder of Fuel First Nutrition, a virtual private practice specializing in the intersection of endurance sports nutrition and disordered eating behavior. I love to work with female athletes on improving their relationship with food and movement while learning more about the power of nutrition so they can fuel for performance in sport and in life.

My personal journey through sport has evolved from a high school swimmer, to a collegiate D1 swimmer and team captain, to an avid marathoner, qualifying for the Boston, NYC, Chicago, and Berlin marathons. My love of food and movement led me to pursue a career in nutrition and ultimately my own practice.

I am a proud Boston College alumni and hold a Bachelor of Science in Management from the Carroll School of Management. I earned my Master of Science in Applied Nutrition with a Dietetic Focus from the University of New England.

My love for swimming started through my local summer club swim league at age five. I competed year round in high school, swimming for my high school and club teams, where I was an All-State swimmer in the 200 yd, 500 yd, 1000 yd, and 1650 yd freestyle events. I ended my seventeen year long swimming career as a captain of the women’s varsity team at Boston College in 2018. Recruited as a distance swimmer, I competed in the 500 yd, 1000 yd, and 1650 yd events for the team in the ACC Conference.

I also struggled with food and body image in college, and was diagnosed with orthorexia after losing a significant amount of weight during my sophomore season. Fortunately, I never experienced any major injuries during my swimming career, but my performance in the pool started to plateau due to under-fueling. With the support of a registered dietitian on campus and a physician in the athletic department, I was cleared to continue training and competing for the team for my junior and senior seasons.

After graduating from Boston College and moving to New York City, I started running and training for the 2018 New York City Marathon. I ran NYC that year for Team JDRF, a charity supporting juvenile Type 1 Diabetes, along with two close high school friends that also swam in college. Ignorance is bliss, I had very little idea what I was getting myself into by running a marathon, but I enjoyed the summer and fall training and found it to be an easy transition, endurance wise, coming from swimming.

I continued to struggle with food and body image during the first year after graduation. The transition from training as a D1 athlete to working 40+ hours per week in a desk job was an adjustment, and running became an (inexpensive) outlet in an expensive, fast-paced city.

Fast forward 8 years, I have now run 5 marathons: NYC, Boston (twice), Chicago, and Philadelphia. In an unconventional way, running helped heal my relationship with food and allowed me to gain a much healthier perspective on nutrition. It was also during these 8 years that I decided to return to university for my Master’s degree in Applied Nutrition and pursue a career as a dietitian.

As a dietitian, I offer a personalized, evidence based approach to nutrition, and specialize in helping female athletes fuel for performance and better understand the power of nutrition. Outside of working with clients, you can also find me in the kitchen cooking for my family and friends because I believe your food should also taste good too!

I’m gearing up to run Berlin and NYC this fall, with hopes of continuing to race on the roads for many years to come.
